While it is really too early to have a full assessment of the impacts that Laura had on agriculture, here are a couple of stories that discuss what was expected to happen and what farmers are seeing on an initial glance, both from the Southeast Farm Press. An article from August 26 discussed what rice farmers and others were expecting from Laura. Most of the rice crop was in, but farmers were worried about lodging in the rice that was remaining, or sprouting of seed heads that got bent to the ground and were saturated by rain or flooding. You can read that here. Since the storm passed, they have also collected a bunch of Twitter images and comments from producers describing the conditions of their crops after Laura’s passage. Those are posted here and will be updated as more information comes in.
