The American Meteorological Society (AMS) is the main professional society of atmospheric scientists in the world, with several thousand active members. I have been a member since I started graduate school in 1980, and currently serve on their Board of Certified Consulting Meteorologists. This week the AMS released their latest statement on climate change, which summarizes the current best scientific understanding of what climate change is, how it is measured, and what consequences warmer temperatures have for the earth as a whole. If you want to read a summary of the best information climate scientists can provide on climate change, this is the place to go. You can read it here. Note that it does not discuss what we should do about it except in the most general terms, because that moves into the realm of policy and not climate science.
