A recent article by Dr. Jeff Masters of Weather Underground highlights the recent high-volume rain events that have hit the US, including Hurricane Harvey in 2017, Hurricane Florence in 2018, and a rainstorm in March 2016 in Louisiana. Masters points out that these three rain events are the three highest rain volume events in US history, and all of them have happened in the last three years. You can read more about the methodology used and see a list of the top ten events, including Tropical Storm Alberto, which brought tremendous rain to the Flint River basin in southern Georgia in 1994, at https://www.wunderground.com/cat6/3-Highest-Volume-US-Rainfall-Events-Record-Have-Happened-Past-3-Years.

Rainfall totals through 8 a.m. Tuesday from Harvey. (Jordan Tessler)
