With less than a month to go until school begins again in parts of the Southeast, thought are starting to turn to football, and schools are preparing to start football practice in anticipation of the upcoming season.  But with the hot weather we are having this year, the danger of excessive heat on the health of young players is a special concern.  Dr. Marshall Shepherd discusses this in a recent Forbes blog post here.  If you have kids that play outdoor sports this time of year, especially if they are practicing in heavy equipment, you will want to make sure that they understand the importance of hydration and resting in the hottest and most humid conditions.  We want our kids to be safe and have fun!

Although the article does not discuss it, you should also be aware of the dangers of heat and humidity on any outdoor workers or recreational activities.  Make sure workers or students know how to protect themselves from heat exhaustion and heat stroke in the hot weather we are experiencing before they get into a critical health situation.
