Dr. Kemerait has confirmed our first southern corn rust in Georgia for the season. Please refer to his comments that follow:  Late to arrive, but here now and weather conditions are favorable for spread.  Only one field known (Baker County), but could easily be anywhere in southwest Georgia. Any corn not yet in dough/dent stages could be vulnerable in southwest Georgia.  Not a lot of rust out there now, but could build quickly. I wouldn’t spray before VT tassel stage, but if corn is still tasseling or silking or early milk, I would consider it in southwest Georgia.

The find is across the state from us, but be sure to look at your corn to identify current growth stage. I will let you know of anymore finds in the state as they are confirmed.
