The National Phenology Network (NPN) studies seasonal changes primarily related to climate, plant and animal life. Each year the NPN publishes on the arrival of spring. This year it is looking like spring is a few weeks ahead. The 1st map below shows that on February 13th we are about 15-20 days early on spring bloom and the 2nd map shows that we are 20 days ahead of schedule on spring leaf out.

Now just how often does this happen? It’s hard to determine Tift County in all of the colors but I would say every 39 years. I don’t think we are quite in the very dark green. All of this data has been calculated using historical data points collected since 1981. You can read the full report NPN Report.
