UGA College of Engineering, UGA College of Agriculture, and Georgia Peanut Commission are working on new technology to identify peanut maturity. Years ago we started with the pocket knife scrape, we then moved to the glass bead blast and we currently use a pressure washer with a maturity board. We are in the beginning phase now but this new technology uses a phone app and several algorithms to count and give accurate counts on peanut color. Now we’re not taking the human element out of the equation but when this new technology is finally up and running it will greatly reduce the margin of error when sorting peanuts by color. This, in turn, will allow us to give more consistent and accurate estimates on days to digging. After we scan your peanuts, you will receive a report (like the one below) via text, email or printout; whichever you choose.
