The 2nd offering of the Virtual Ready in the Middle Instructor Certification and Training Workshop will be on June 25, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. EST. Dr. Ryan Akers, Mississippi State University Extension professional and MyPI National Director has provided details on the training and a link for registering . Feel free to use the project image for any local promotions.

As of result of feedback and many requests to offer another Ready in the Middle Instructor Certification and Training Workshop, we are excited to do just that on Thursday, June 25 at 2:00 pm EST (register through link below).

We hope that you all are doing well and staying safe as we continue to maneuver through the COVID19 pandemic.  I would like to call your attention to a free National webinar focused on qualifying instructors to deliver Ready in the Middle, a youth preparedness/youth leadership program, developed by the creators of the four-time, national award-winning MyPI program.  While MyPI is focused strictly on teens and their families, Ready in the Middle engages 10-19 year-olds in the mitigation and preparedness discussion and allows them to engage in a comprehensive Home Hazard Hunt and Emergency Preparedness Activity with their parents/guardians.

For the time being and perhaps again in the future, COVID19 has forced us all to adjust our program delivery strategies.  I am happy to announce that not only is Ready in the Middle available for the first time nationally, but it can be delivered 100% virtually.  If you are interested in engaging and empowering your pre-teen stakeholders to understand and participate in hazard identification, mitigation, and emergency preparedness, please consider registering for the webinar below and becoming an instructor in the program.

Topic:

Engaging Youth in Emergency Preparedness during COVID-19: Introducing Ready in the Middle’s Virtual Opportunities

Description:

From the creators of the four-time, national award-winning youth preparedness/youth leadership program, MyPI, comes a pre-teen preparedness program known as Ready in the Middle.

In 2015, based on interest and momentum generated from MyPI, Mississippi State University Extension and Mississippi Citizen Corps of the Mississippi Office of Homeland Security developed a high-quality and engaging youth preparedness program for ages 10 to 12. Until now, Ready in the Middle has been offered only in Mississippi. However, with the continued impact of COVID-19, many practitioners and educators are looking for engaging programs that can be delivered virtually.  Additionally, as the content and activity is still quite relevant to older teens, we are announcing an age extension.  The program can now be offered to youth ages 10 through 19.

Ready in the Middle, considered less intensive when compared to the teen-centric MyPI, is designed around a comprehensive Home Hazard Hunt and Emergency Preparedness Activity, in which the participants enlist the assistance of parents/guardians to identify risks and hazards in and around the home and to develop/discuss mitigation strategies to prevent these risks and hazards as well as to prepare for emergencies.

Manuals, delivery strategies, and evaluation components for delivery of Ready in the Middle will be made available for those who wish to become instructors and deliver the program. To become a certified instructor, please register for the first virtual Instructor Certification and Training Workshop to be held at 1:00 pm Central Standard Time on Thursday, June 25th.  The webinar will last approximately 75 minutes with a Q&A session at the end.  Registration is now open through the following link:
