The Lincoln County Extension Office is proud to announce that Elizabeth Ann Reed was hired as the 4-H Program Assistant on July 25th, 2024 and will be working with our 5th-12th graders. With the addition of Ms. Reed, the Extension office is excited to grow our 4-H program offerings and engage youth in activities including District Project Achievement, in-school club meetings, out of school clubs, workshops, and other projects. We hope to educate our youth by introducing them to agriculture, nutrition and wellness, wildlife management, natural resource conservation, and much more.
Born and raised in Lincolnton, Elizabeth Ann graduated from Lincoln County High School in 2023 and attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College for a year, majoring in Livestock Production. In 2024, she was given the opportunity to return to her roots and serve the same 4-H program she grew up in. Ms. Reed was raised in an agricultural family and grew up on her family farm, developing interest in 4-H at the young age of 9. Her first eligible year to join 4-H, Elizabeth Ann participated in Cloverleaf District Project Achievement with a “How To Groom Show Cattle” poster presentation. Later that year, she got her first show heifer and showed her at competitions across the state. Elizabeth Ann continued exhibiting beef projects through her senior year of high school.
Lincoln County 4-H programs will begin this fall in coordination with the school year. If you have a child in 5th grade, they will automatically be enrolled as a 4-H member and will attend monthly, in-school club meetings. Middle school club meetings are every other month, and high school meets monthly. All Lincoln County School District students are invited to attend our in-school 4-H club meetings, but they must fill out a 4-H enrollment card in order to do so. In-school club meetings usually consist of announcements, upcoming events, important dates, and a short lesson. We will also be continuing our cooking club and homeschool clubs, and looking at starting some additional opportunities for youth to get involved with 4-H. Ms. Reed will be evaluating interest in new 4-H programs during our first in-school club meetings of the year.
“I look forward to seeing where our program goes in the upcoming year and hope to see some new faces join 4-H. I want kids to know that you don’t have to come from an agricultural background or know how to drive a tractor to join 4-H. We have something for everyone – a wide variety of club opportunities from A-Z. If there is something you or your child would like to see added to the program, let us know! The sky’s the limit, and I think that’s what’s so great about 4-H. Let’s have a great year in Lincoln County and strive to make the best, better!” -Elizabeth Ann Reed
