By Johannah Stone, 4H Program Assistant
Even though 4-H looks a bit different this year as we adapt to new COVID-19 guidelines, our new program assistant is hard at work getting her feet on the ground. We recently held in-school club meetings for our 5th graders at Lincoln County Elementary School and for our 6th through 8th graders at Lincoln County Middle School. In these meetings, we taught a lesson on the history of 4-H and how it was established, what it is today, and what opportunities we have for students in Lincoln County. Students filled out enrollment cards and interest surveys for some new clubs including Archery Team, Livestock Judging, and Poultry Judging. We also discussed Project Achievement, which is a speech contest and field trip for our 4-H’ers. If they have not already, students need to tell Miss Stone what topic they want to present on as soon as possible, as space is limited.
Our first club meeting for students in 9th through 12th grade at Lincoln County High School was scheduled for November 13th, however, due to the transition to virtual for the next two weeks, the meeting was cancelled. Instead, we will be posting an announcement video to the Lincoln County UGA Extension Facebook page and emailing it out to our students as well. Senior 4-H’ers need to fill out their 4-H forms including enrollment, code of conduct, and virtual permission form as soon as possible. They should also be working on their portfolios if they are interested in attending Project Achievement in 2021.
In addition to our club meetings, we have been working on several exciting opportunities for our students. More information on these opportunities can be found on the Lincoln County UGA Extension Facebook page or website (https://site.extension.uga.edu/lincoln/)
