There are many great reasons to purchase fruits and vegetables that are in season. Chief among them is this is the best way to ensure freshness. Purchasing “in season” means that you are consuming the fruits and veggies soon after they are harvested. This means that you are getting produce directly from local producers and it likely has not been in storage conditions very long.

Economically, buying from local growers helps you as well because the produce doesn’t have to travel from another region where the weather conditions can support growing out of season. This gives a better chance of having produce that is less expensive because transportation costs are lower.

When you go to the grocery store, consider picking up some in season produce!
