Landowners and pond managers in Southeast Georgia are invited to attend a Pond Management Workshop on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, beginning at 9:30 AM at the Evans County Public Fishing Area in Claxton.
This educational program is designed to help pond owners improve water quality, manage aquatic weeds, and maintain productive fish populations in private ponds and farm ponds. The workshop will include classroom instruction along with a live demonstration on the water.
The program is hosted by UGA Extension in Evans and Candler Counties in partnership with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Resources Division at the Evans County Public Fishing Area.
Participants will learn practical pond management strategies that can improve fishing opportunities, reduce aquatic weed problems, and maintain balanced fish populations.
Discussion Topics
Participants will learn about several important pond management topics including:
- Pond Weed Management
Identification and control options for common aquatic weeds found in Georgia ponds. - Restocking and Sport Fish Management
How to maintain balanced fish populations and determine when restocking is needed. - Electrofishing Demonstration and Fish Population Analysis
A live demonstration showing how fisheries biologists assess fish populations and pond health.
