Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. Topics include maximizing forage and feed resources, forage irrigation options, late-season summer annuals, late-season hayfield management, and planning for winter annuals. Speakers are Dr. Pedro Carvalho, Jason Mallard, Ross Greene, and Savannah Tanner. Participants can earn one hour each of Georgia pesticide recertification credit in Categories 10 and 21. Coffee, refreshments, and lunch are provided. To help producers address these challenges, UGA Extension will host the 2026 Southeast Georgia Cattle Update on Thursday, July 23, at the Georgia Grown Resource Center in Metter. Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m., with educational presentations starting promptly at 9:15 a.m. Lunch will be provided following the program.

This year’s meeting will focus on practical strategies to help producers maximize forage production, make efficient use of available water, manage hayfields during dry conditions, and begin planning for fall and winter forage production.

Presentations will include:

  • Maximizing Soil Moisture in Forages – Jason Mallard
  • Forage Irrigation Options – Jason Mallard
  • Late-Season Hayfield Management – Savannah Tanner
  • Maximizing Forage & Feed Resources – Dr. Pedro Carvalho
  • Late-Season Summer Annuals – Ross Greene
  • Planning for Winter Annuals – Savannah Tanner

Whether you manage improved pastures, produce hay, or rely on annual forages for grazing, this meeting will provide timely, research-based recommendations to help you navigate the remainder of the growing season while preparing for the months ahead.

Participants will also have the opportunity to earn 1 hour of Georgia pesticide recertification credit in Category 10 and 1 hour in Category 21.
