CHAIRMAN BISHOP ANNOUNCES FINALIZATION OF USDA’S DISASTER RELIEF BLOCK GRANTS PLAN

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02), Chairman of the U.S. House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies, released a statement announcing the finalization of the plan for the block grants authorized in the Disaster Relief Act of 2019. Georgia, Florida, Alabama, and North Carolina are the states designated to receive the block grants:

“I am very pleased the block grant money will be released to the states, so our communities can get back on their feet. When I spoke to Secretary Perdue yesterday, he indicated that Georgia would receive $347 million, out of the total of $800 million. The U.S. Department of Agriculture is aiming to wrap everything up and disburse the funds by Thanksgiving.

“It has been a long road since Hurricane Michael ripped through our district in October 2018, but I am hopeful this relief will help our communities rebuild and farmers move forward.”
