A website from UGA Cooperative Extension

News, events, and happenings in Colquitt County agriculture.

The 2025 UGA Crop Comparison tool has been updated by Amanda Smith, Dr. Liu, and Guy Hancock. The crop comparison compares the gross return, returns above variable and fixed costs, and break-even yields for 5 agronomic crops in both irrigated and dryland production systems. Remember that land rent is not included in this spreadsheet. The assumed fertilizer costs for N, P, and K are $0.58, $0.70, and $0.42 per lb, respectively. Fuel cost is assumed to be $3.00 per gallon, and the average irrigation cost for applying an acre inch of water is the average of electric and diesel power. These are estimates and it is encouraged to input your own prices and cost estimates for your operation.
