Monday, September 22, 2025 is the autumnal equinox, which marks the start of astronomical fall. That means sunrise and sunset occur exactly due east and due west, which gives you a great chance to see exactly where those directions fall from the viewpoint of your house or property. It is also the period when day and night are nominally the same length of time, although since the sun is a disk and not a point of light, that is not quite correct. You can read more about equinoxes at EarthSky at https://earthsky.org/astronomy-essentials/everything-you-need-to-know-september-equinox/ or watch a video that explains it here.
