The latest Drought Monitor, released last Thursday, shows an area of moderate (D1) drought appearing in southern Puerto Rico. However, the rain this weekend with Hurricane Erin brought a lot of water to the territory, and I would not be surprised to see the drought disappear in next week’s map. In the mainland Southeast, most areas of drought and abnormally dry conditions decreased due to rain this week, and almost no extreme (D3) drought remains in South Florida. Some minor appearance of abnormally dry conditions appeared in parts of Alabama, Georgia, and Florida where spotty rain missed.
