Since I went to see Twisters today, I thought for some summer fun you might enjoy Time magazine’s list of the best disaster movies, since many of these movies have a weather or climate component. I don’t agree with all of their rankings but it is fun to see what the rankings are. My own favorite is Deep Impact, which talks about what happens when an asteroid hits the earth (you can also read Lucifer’s Hammer for much more detail on this if you like disaster fiction). They really worked to get the science right, unlike many disaster movies. I am happy to say that Twisters is better about using accurate science in their move, although other things are still lacking. Remember that a natural hazard does not necessarily have to be a disaster if you are prepared for it. That is why I always talk about what you can do in advance of severe weather to get ready for it while there is still time.
