The Drought Monitor released yesterday showed slight increases in abnormally dry conditions and drought in the Southeast, but we can expect to see some significant changes in next week’s map, which includes the heavy rainfall from Hurricane Idalia that occurred across Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas after the cut-off for this week’s map on Tuesday. Severe drought (D2) was removed from Puerto Rico but was introduced to northern Virginia. The next week should be relatively dry so improvements on next week’s map will only come to areas affected by Idalia.
