The latest 7-day QPF map shows that most of the region should not get any rain this week as we are under high pressure and the focus of activity is to our north in the Ohio River Valley. Some areas in the Southern Appalachians and northern GA and AL may see a few showers but not much accumulation is expected. That pattern is expected to continue for the next three weeks as well as warmer than normal temperatures, especially in the southern half of the region. Because of that, drought is likely to expand into most of the Florida peninsula over the next few weeks. The warm temperatures should accelerate spring growth and the blooming of flowering trees and shrubs, including commercial crops. You can track the onset of spring growth and flowering at the National Phenology Network at http://usanpn.org/.
