This week severe drought (D2) was added to parts of the island of Puerto Rico as dry conditions there get worse. In most of the Southeast, only slight increases in drought were seen in the latest Drought Monitor. Virginia continues to be free of drought and Alabama saw a reduction in severe drought in the southeastern corner of the state. Heavy rain is expected in most of the Southeast except for Alabama so reductions in drought are likely for next week’s Monitor.
