The latest 7-day QPF map shows that the heaviest rain this week is expected to be in Florida and along the coastal plains of the East Coast, with up to several inches expected in some areas. Since those areas have been the driest of the region, that may reduce the remaining drought in those counties. I am sure that the rain would be welcome in most of the region, which has been hot and humid but without a lot of rainfall in the past week. We are also looking down the road to next week, when there is some chance of a tropical rain event, although it is really too far out to say. If a storm happened it would be mainly a rain producer, not anything to worry about in the way of winds. I will be updating the blog as things get closer if the likelihood goes up.
