The recent cold snap which we’ve experienced across the US is something we expect to see with a La Niña, and it won’t surprise me if we see a few more outbreaks of cold air this winter and even into spring as the La Niña diminishes and we go back to neutral conditions.  You can read more about this in AgWeb here.

One concern about the cold air is the chance for winter kill with wheat crops across the central US, where temperatures have gotten very cold.  You can read more about this at Cattle News Network here and in AgWeb here.

Cattle News Network also has some information about preparing your herd for cold weather here.  They also provide advice about how to maximize the use of hay here.  The least waste (3.3%) comes with a cone feeder.
