Shane Curry, the author of the Appling County Crop E News, had an interesting article this week about the unfilled ears of corn they are seeing in some locations as they harvest their fields.  It discusses the problems caused by high temperatures and low humidity associated with dry conditions that affected the corn plants this year and impaired their ability to fill the ears of corn.  You can read his blog post, “Heat Stress and Corn Pollination–What Happened?” at https://site.extension.uga.edu/applingcrop/2015/08/heat-stress-and-corn-pollination-what-happened/.  One of the pictures he provided in the blog article is shown below.
