Where were you on April 3-4, 1974?  I was living in Grand Rapids, MI at the time.  We heard the stories there of the terrible tornado outbreak that affected a wide area of the eastern US, including areas of the Southeast.  My church sent workers to help in the cleanup of the devastation at Xenia, OH, where most of the town was flattened by a massive F5 tornado.  Many of my meteorologist and climatologist friends because interested in the weather because of severe weather like the Super Outbreak.  Today is the 41st anniversary of the outbreak, and it is worth looking back at this amazing and terrifying meteorological event and comparing it to the more recent one in 2011.

Last year USTornadoes.com did a great article showing a variety of maps from the Super Outbreak, including an interactive one which allows you to look at each tornado in detail, at https://www.ustornadoes.com/2014/04/03/40th-anniversary-of-the-1974-super-tornado-outbreak/.  The year before that was another article on this topic at https://www.ustornadoes.com/2013/04/03/looking-back-at-the-april-3-4-1974-super-outbreak/

If you have a story about either of these outbreaks or another storm that affected you personally, I would love to hear it.
