Earlier this week I noted that we were in for some cold weather and possible frost this coming weekend.  I wanted to give you an update on the general situation, although you will want to get detailed forecasts from the National Weather Service or another source as the cold weather moves in.

The cold front is moving through the Southeast just as predicted earlier in the week, bringing colder and drier air to the area.  The cold air will continue to move into the region through Friday and there will probably still be some wind on Saturday morning, which will keep the air a bit warmer than on Sunday, when calm conditions should let the temperatures drop to their lowest level before warmer weather returns.  The maps below show the graphical forecasts for minimum temperature from the NWS Peachtree City for northern Georgia for Saturday and Sunday mornings.  As you can see, temperatures on Sunday are expected to be colder than on Saturday morning.

The current graphical forecasts show that freezing conditions could reach as far south as Atlanta on Saturday morning and almost to Macon on Sunday morning.  However, forecasts could still change and areas as far south as Albany could be affected.  If you have local fields with cold air drainage and more frequent frost, you will want to be especially watchful.  Use frost protection to protect tender plants where you can.  If you are in other NWS service areas, check the NWS graphical forecasts for your location to see what temperatures are predicted for your area.
