I woke up this morning to the sound of rain mixed with a little thunder as the cold front is getting near.  The rain out ahead of it was falling pretty hard as I emptied my CoCoRaHS rain gauge.  Once the front passes, much colder air will enter the state, eventually dropping temperatures into the teens by Wednesday or Thursday morning (depending on where you are).  You can see the outbreak of polar air on the wind map below (it’s more impressive if you look at the animated version at https://hint.fm/wind/).  The cold front is located where the wind shifts from out of the southwest to from the west in the wind graphic (you can see it just east of Mobile Bay along the Gulf coast).
