Last week I mentioned that some Georgia farmers were looking to grow pomegranates as a new crop in the Southeast. Georgia Farm Monitor released a video on this subject a few days later, explaining how growing pomegranates mesh nicely with blueberries because they ripen at different times of year. The video explains that growing pomegranates in the Southeast is more difficult than growing them in California because the higher humidity makes their outer skins more susceptible to discoloration, making them less marketable. However, a new machine which removes the inner seeds from the outer rind will improve their marketability by improving convenience without the bother of removing the outer shell.
