We welcome Connie Lynn Rogers as our Worth County Extension summer intern. It has been a busy week, and she has hit the ground running. Connie Lynn is a student at UGA Tifton Campus that has begun graduate school in the Master of Plant Protection and Pest Management coursework. She will be helping at the Worth County Extension office with Ag & Natural Resources and 4-H for the summer.
This week she was able to meet and visit with growers and assist out in the field. First day on the job, Connie Lynn got acquainted at the office and in the afternoon got some hands-on experience as we used a stationary motor to calibrate a granular insecticide applicator. This calibration kit is available for county agents to check out at our Southwest District office. Some Worth County growers have used it this year, but if we need to get it again, contact us at the Worth County Extension Office.

Tuesday was orientation day for all of the Extension summer interns and their supervisors in Tifton. The interns and agents from SW and SE Georgia were in attendance. Following orientation, we were back to the field to check on peanut seeding rates and planting depths.
Wednesday morning started off with a peanut aflatoxin research study. The SW District Water Team came over to install soil moisture sensors in a Worth County peanut field. Connie Lynn jumped right in and helped with the installation and setup. This study will compare aflatoxin risk in irrigated and non-irrigated parts of the field.

Wednesday afternoon, we planted the Worth County on-farm cotton variety trial at the Gwines farm. There are 10 cotton varieties that are in the trial. We had a good group and plenty of help to get the planting done. Connie Lynn helped pouring up seed, vacuuming seed to swap varieties, and got to make some of the rounds planting with Mr. Mark.

Thursday and Friday we were in the field looking at grain sorghum and peanut planting.

We have had a good week with Connie Lynn as the Worth County Extension Intern. Welcome again, Connie Lynn!
