Cotton: These warm, wet leaves from this lovely weather are exacerbating areloate mildew. Priaxor and Miravis Top are our best options for areloate. It’s boll rot time too. Unfortunately, there isn’t much we can do about that. I’m seeing more and more jassids in fields. Let me know if you have some or think you might, we’re trying to get a handle on the severity and damage they may cause.
Peanut: Leaf spot is starting to pop up. I’ve seen a lot of burn that is not leaf spot. If you’re in doubt, call me or send me some pictures so we can correctly identify it. It may not seem like it, but we’ll be digging peanuts before you know it; I’ll get a blasting schedule posted soon.
Weather: Looks like Hurricane Erin is projected to turn back into the Atlantic. After Erin moves through, the tropics look quiet for several days, but some new waves are moving west across Africa that have the potential to turn into tropical systems once they get over water. We are approaching the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season on September 10. However, there is a lot of the season still to come after that, and NOAA reiterated on August 7 that they think an above-average number of named storms is likely this year, so there should be plenty to watch in the next few months—still waiting on Hurricane Justin. I want to think that it would be the first Category 6 Hurricane, but more than likely, it would just fizzle out.
