It’s hot! Just think, if we had bought Apple and Google stock about 15 years ago, we could be sitting on the beach enjoying this hot weather.

Peanuts: I may sound like a broken record, but now is the time to protect against white mold and keep water to them. I know ponds are drying up, but now isn’t the time for peanuts to stress. Some are beginning to lap, but I haven’t seen any 12Ys that were far enough to need a PGR just yet, maybe in 7-10 days.

Corn: Southern rust is all around us, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it is somewhere in the county, but I have not found any yet, and it’s not from lack of trying. If you’ve made it to hard dough, R5 or R6, I would not consider spraying again.

Cotton: Many are applying Pix or already have some out. Remember, don’t hold back the water because you don’t want the plant to “take off.” If you put the PGR on correctly, it will work as it should. Cotton is looking good, a little droopy but its a 105°F

Pecans: With the very high temperatures this week and last, there is no point in spraying for insects when the temps are in the 95+ range. Extreme heat slows and then stops reproduction in insects like mites and aphids and will shorten the life span (kill) when it gets up near 100. Materials that rely on leaf uptake are affected also. This includes most of our aphid materials.
