Cotton: I haven’t looked at much cotton this week. Its been all peanuts and deskwork.
Peanuts: Hot and humid may give us some early outbreaks of white mold. Hot and dry conditions are a catalyst for underground white mold. This is possible, especially with nighttime temperatures around that 75 and above mark. Throw some white mold material in the tank for your early fungicide spray.
Irrigation: Temperatures have been in the 100 range and will continue to be in the 100 range through next week. I am hoping for some pop-up showers to keep things cooler and give us some water relief. Many of you are in the 5-8 week age range on peanuts and cotton, so we’re right in that inch range per week for both crops. Most corn is in the 2 inch a week range. When it’s this hot, you need to consider irrigation efficiency. Typically pivots with drops are about 85% efficient, so be sure not to under-irrigate. Worn nozzles, leaky boots, low pressure, and/or clogged nozzles can lower the efficient percentage of your pivots.
