Peanuts: So far the peanuts are still looking good. the first dug was a little dirty but now we’re starting to get away from that. The grades I’m hearing are pretty good, the mid to high 70s and some in the low 80s. No yield numbers yet but the estimates are looking average to plus. We are still checking peanut maturity as scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. If you need to check some on Tuesdays or Thursdays just give me a call or drop them by the office.

Cotton: More cotton has been sprayed and more is in need of being sprayed. Several fields I’ve looked at this week should be ready within the next week to be sprayed. I know peanuts are the driver but let’s not forget about our cotton. Areolate mildew is on our cotton. If you’re within a few weeks of defoliating I wouldn’t worry about it. If you’re several several weeks out then I would consider a treatment. It can defoliate a crop quickly. Speaking of defoliation, our cotton has some stout regrowth potential and temps have backed up a little at night so let’s up our Dropp to 4oz/A, Folex to 10oz/A, and Prep to 1qt/A.

Corn: If you have fall corn, be on the lookout for southern rust and tarspot. We have southern rust and tarspot is on our borders. Tarspot are tiny black specks on the leaf. It looks like someone slung black paint over the plant. If you find it, let me know so I can confirm it. We are trying to track and document its distribution.
