Getting your Trinity Audio player ready…

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve had (or been given, when I was little) a list of chores that I have to do. I know you’ve got them too. Things like feed the animals, wash the dishes, pick up your tools, fold the laundry.
Everybody does chores. We may not always want to, but if we don’t, things get messy or stop working and soon it’s all chaos. Webster’s Dictionary says a chore is “a minor routine activity necessary for maintaining a household or farm.”
Necessary. That’s the key word. Sometimes they can be pleasant (I find folding laundry really relaxing), other times not…but they have to get done.
There are also some things that we really have to do in order to have a well-functioning life, but that we don’t usually think of as chores. I’m thinking about the things we need to do for ourselves to make sure our bodies and minds keep working. Without us, the household or the farm can really fall apart and become a mess. So why aren’t these chores as important as the ones we do for everyone and everything else?
What would happen if you put these on your daily chore list:
- Drink 8 glasses of water
- Stretch for 5 minutes before starting work
- Eat at least a couple of servings of fruits and vegetables
- Do something that makes you smile, even just for a minute
- Make a call or send a text and connect with someone you care about
Try adding these to your chore list tomorrow, and see how much your body and mind feel like they’re working better. Add a few simple chores to keep you thriving!
