Preliminary information about the 2022 National 4-H STEM Challenge has been released – yay!
Explorers of the Deep focuses on the mysteries and adventures of ocean exploration with 3 exciting activities: Ocean Robot Test Tank, Ocean Expedition, and Ocean Communicator. The activities are designed for youth ages 8-14 and could be completed during an in-school club meeting, one-day event, festival or exhibit, or as a series of activities throughout the year.
National 4-H Council is offering multiple ways to purchase the STEM Challenge materials from Shop 4-H:
- An educator kit, for up to 4-6 youth for $32.95
- Additional supplies (youth guides, gliders, and board games) can be purchased to expand the number of youth a kit can serve at one time.
Military Funding Note:
Military Child Care, Youth Program, Teen Center… staff, please be advised that some service branches fund science kits. I recommend reaching out to your service branch leadership before purchasing to see what funding is available to support your efforts. Regardless of the funding stream, I highly recommend participating in the virtual Georgia 4-H training to learn tips and tricks for implementing the activities. Learn more below!

For experienced professionals, you may remember that this “event” has traditionally been hosted on the Wednesday of National 4-H Week. National 4-H Council is shifting away from a specific day to host the activities … so please choose the best way to celebrate for you … whether that be during National 4-H Week, October, or anytime during the upcoming 4-H program year!
