In our office, the planning never stops! As we wind down 2022, our staff are excitedly looking forward to 2023 and planning events and programs to meet the needs of our local community and region. This week, I wanted to provide a bit of an update as to what programs you can expect from us next year, and open the door for you to provide feedback or suggestions to us.
Our Agriculture and Natural Resources agent is hard at work getting programs ready for next spring. For our horse enthusiasts, join us for the UGA Horse Owner’s Webinar Series: Basics of Equine Nutrition (virtual) in January and February and the monthly Equine Exchange Lunch & Learn (virtual). Our livestock producers should consider joining our Master Small Ruminant program (in-person; March-April), our Small Flock program (TBD), and our Livestock Reproduction Clinic (TBD). We will also have a Pecan Production Field Day, an Ag Day Open House, the Master Agrimanager program, a Composting Class, Food Preservation Workshops, and a New Farmer Conference. If you have ideas of programs you’d like to see in 2023, please let us know!
Our 4-H educator has spent this year really getting her feet on the ground since she started in May. Her current focus for 2023 is continuing Club Meetings (5th-12th grade, in school), preparing students for District Project Achievement, attending 4-H Summer Camp with youth, and providing fun activities including a pizza party, movie night, gardening workshop, cookout, summer reading programs, and the Ag Day Open House. Our ability to expand 4-H programming to include things like shooting sports relies on the use of volunteers- if you are interested in helping grow our program, please contact our office for information on how to help!
Cooperative Extension serves to provide scientific, research-based information to our clients in the areas of agriculture and natural resources, 4-H and youth, and family and consumer sciences. We are a community driven organization that strives to provide programs and educations in areas that are identified as needs through a variety of methods, including program evaluations, surveys, and conversations with clients. If you feel there is a local need we are not effectively meeting, please contact us- we would love to hear from you.
If you have questions on any of our programs or offerings, or would like to be added to our newsletter, please let us know at uge3181@uga.edu or 706-359-3233. Thank you for a fantastic 2022 and we look forward to serving you in 2023!
