Robyn Stewart

As we started back to school last week, I had several thoughts that I wanted to share with Lincoln County.  First, I’d like to let everyone know that we have officially moved to our new building! Located at 2080 Rowland-York Drive, the new Lincoln County Agricultural Center is an exciting asset to Lincoln County’s Cooperative Extension and 4-H programs. Our standard hours remain 8AM-12PM and 1PM-5PM on Mondays through Fridays. Please be aware that our agent may be out of the office at times for things like meeting with homeowners and running samples to the post office and bank, which may close the office unexpectedly.  To ensure we’re available to meet with you, call us at 706-359-3233 (office) before you stop by!

Second, I’d like to extend a sincere thank you to all of our Lincoln County teachers, school staff, district administration, families, and students. We hope that your first week back in the classroom, both virtual and in person, went well! We also understand that times are still very uncertain and we want to support each and every one of you, wherever your comfort zone is. With that said, I wanted to provide a quick update as to what the Lincoln County 4-H club is doing and what to expect from us moving forward.

Lincoln County Extension held interviews this week in hopes of hiring a part time 4-H Program Assistant. The 4-H Program Assistant will help coordinate in-school club meetings for our cloverleaf and junior 4-H’ers as well as after school club meetings for our senior 4-H’ers. This individual will also be responsible for helping with workshops preparing for Project Achievement and Poultry Judging, as well as working towards establishing some new 4-H clubs and opportunities. We expect to continue emphasizing fundraising and community service as well during this time.

As I mentioned, we are starting back up our 4-H programs in correspondence with the school year. An official 4-H enrollment letter will be available in hard copies at our office and will be distributed to all students at the first 4-H club meetings of the year. It is also available on the Lincoln County Extension Facebook page and website. This letter gives a brief overview of 4-H, who is eligible to join (any student from 5th to 12th grade), what you need to do in order to enroll (fill out an enrollment card either online or in person), and what to expect as a 4-H’er! We have already worked with LCMS administrative staff to set dates for our in-school club meetings for our junior 4-H’ers, and are working on setting dates for our cloverleaf and senior 4-H’ers as well.

As we move forward in the year, we plan to follow all UGA COVID-19 guidelines to protect the health and well-being of our students, their families, and Lincoln County. We hope that you will be more familiar and comfortable with the Lincoln County 4-H club after seeing what we have planned!  If you would like to stay up-to-date on Lincoln County 4-H events, club meetings, and fundraisers, please follow the Lincoln County Extension Facebook Page.  If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know at uge3181@uga.edu or 706-359-3233.
