Dr. Scott Monfort, UGA peanut agronomist, has provided county agents and growers research on the topic of infurrow fertilizers in peanuts. We have observed some issues with the application of infurrow fertilizers over the last few years and hopefully we can avoid situations similar to one that is highlighted in the picture below.

UGA does NOT recommend applying in furrow fertilizers in peanut. Research has proven that stand emergence is reduced. Poor seed quality and/or less than optimum soil conditions can make this much worse. Below are slides from Dr. Monfort’s research and also the link to his presentation….

At 14 DAP (days after planting), the untreated check had over 84% emergence of seed planted. Dr. Monfort reported significant decreases in % emergence of seed planted in the treatments containing the Riser at 2 and 3 gallon per acre rates at 14 DAP.
