The latest Drought Monitor, released this morning, shows that there were slight expansions in moderate drought in Alabama and Florida but very little change in the rest of the region. With ample rain expected in most of the Southeast this week other than the Florida peninsula, we could see further reductions on next week’s map.

The only area of severe drought remaining is in northern Georgia east of Atlanta, with moderate drought still present in lower amounts in Alabama, South Carolina and Florida. This week’s Drought Monitor shows continuing erosion of drought conditions across the Southeast. No big changes but reductions in areal coverage for all categories of drought. Rain today and this weekend should help keep this trend going over the next week.
