Sam Ingram of the Effingham County Extension News reports that last week’s dry weather was good enough for farmers in his county to plant corn. Because of the warm conditions and adequate moisture, the corn is really popping up. A bit farther afield, AgWeb reports that drought has adversely impacted winter wheat in Kansas. You can read the article here. The National Ag Statistics Service reported the 28 percent of the wheat was in poor to very poor condition, with 44 percent listed as fair. In NOAA’s morning climate webinar this morning they noted that much of the primary winter wheat production area is in drought. The drought outlook shows that there may be some improvement in drought conditions in Kansas in the coming months, but it is not known how these conditions will affect final wheat yields.
