The Capital Weather Gang has an interesting story today on a huge mid-latitude cyclone which is pushing very warm air north into the Arctic.  This is supposed to bring above-freezing temperatures to the North Pole for the fourth time in just over a year.  This type of event used to be considered a once-in-a-decade event but has been becoming more frequent with less sea ice in the Arctic to keep things there cold.  You can read about the storm and see some great pictures at https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/capital-weather-gang/wp/2017/02/06/massive-hurricane-force-atlantic-storm-to-push-abnormally-mild-air-towards-north-pole/.

Meanwhile, warm air in the northern US has been hurting the winter sports industry like skiing there.  You can read more about it at https://www.channel3000.com/weather/warm-weather-is-melting-away-profits-in-the-winter-sports-industry/279768293.
