Earlier this week NOAA released their latest seasonal outlook for June through August 2025. It shows that both June and the June through August period are leaning toward a forecast of warmer than normal conditions. This is not a surprise because with the upward trend in temperature we have been seeing in the Southeast since around 1970, it is more likely that every year will be warmer than the 30-year average than below normal. The rainfall prediction for nearly all of the Southeast indicates they also think it is likely to be wetter than normal. I think this is likely due to the expectation that the Atlantic tropical season will be more active than average and that may bring more rain to the region over the next three months. The rain should also work to further reduce the drought that is currently present.
