The Drought Monitor this week showed that while drought conditions improved in southern Alabama and far western Florida, an area of abnormally dry conditions reappeared in coastal Georgia and South Carolina, which received less rain from Debby and Helene than more inland counties did. Northern Alabama and parts of Tennessee also experienced an increase in drought status. With almost no rain expected in the next week, we could see an expansion of dry conditions on next week’s map, although cooler temperatures will reduce water demand.
