The latest Drought Monitor, released today, shows big improvements in drought conditions across a lot of the Southeast along the path of Debby as it moved north through the region. In some parts of South and North Carolina, the rainfall was so much that the drought improved by two categories, which usually only happens in extreme rain events like the very heavy rain from Debby. There were a few small areas where drought grew along the western and northern periphery of the region, but they were outweighed by all the improvements. With lighter rain and hotter temperatures in the coming week, we might see some slight expansion of dry conditions but there will most likely not be much change. There is no drought in Puerto Rico this week, but even if there were, the rain from Hurricane Eduardo would have washed most of it away.
