Yesterday, September 10, was the climatological midpoint of the Atlantic tropical season. You can read more about what that means from the Weather Channel here. This means we have a long way to go before we are safe from the potential impacts of another hurricane. Tonight, there are two active hurricanes in the Atlanta: Hurricane Lee, which has regained major hurricane status after faltering for a while and is now headed for Nova Scotia or somewhere in New England, and Hurricane Katia, which is a “fish” storm out in the Atlantic that is not expected to affect land. There are two additional areas that that National Hurricane Center is watching, including Investigation 98, that has a 70% chance of becoming a named storm (most likely Nigel) in the next week. It’s a long ways out from us in the Southeast, so we can watch it for ten days or more before there is any concern at all, and it may never be a threat to us. But there is still plenty of time for another storm to hit somewhere in the Southeast, so you need to continue to be prepared.
