The latest Drought Monitor was released today, and it shows that while the total amount of drought had very small changes across the region, a narrow band of extreme (D3) drought has been identified along the Florida Coast just south of Tampa due to high temperatures and continuing lack of rainfall. In Puerto Rico, the drought in the northwest part of the island intensified to severe (D2) drought. Rain in the next week could bring some relief to the worst areas in Florida but light rain in more northern parts of the region could expand areas of abnormally dry (D0) conditions there.
