Today the National Hurricane Center posted a 7-day outlook that shows a wave that recently came off of Africa has a 70 percent chance of developing in the next seven days. This is quite a bit earlier than usual, but since water temperatures are much warmer than usual there is plenty of energy for a wave to develop in the next few days. If it does develop, there is plenty of time for us to watch before it would be of any concern. If it develops quickly, it is likely to veer to the north long before it reaches land, but if it stays weak and develops slowly, it will move farther west and could reach the Caribbean.
