The latest 7-day QPF map for next week shows that there will be some rain during the period from Tuesday night to Thursday morning with a cold front moving through the region from west to east. Colder air behind the front will bring freezing conditions to some locations the morning after the front comes through. No winter precipitation is expected except in eastern Tennessee, western Virginia, and some locations in North Carolina following the movement of colder air into the region. Check your local NWS forecasts for specific details. For southern parts of the region, it will just be some rain. Most areas should get an inch or less, but a few spots in western Alabama and eastern North Carolina could see higher amounts. The following weekend should be dry and calm, a nice change from the last two weekends. Week 2 is expected to be near normal precipitation in northern parts of the region and drier than normal in Florida and nearby areas of Georgia and South Carolina. The National Weather Service has issued a statement saying that another blast of very cold and dry air will occur during this time period, so don’t let your guard down just yet. You can read their statement at https://cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/cpc_key_messages/CPC-Key-Message-1.html. After relatively calm and dry conditions in the beginning of February, the long-range models are showing some signs of a more active pattern beginning around February 12, but there is not much agreement about what kind of weather those storms would bring, so nothing to worry about at this point, just something to keep an eye on.
