Evapotranspiration data is part of the necessary water balance information that farmers need to determine irrigation needs. But it has been hard for many producers to come by, especially in states without mesonets that calculate it using their meteorological data. Here is a new online source of ET information called OpenET that helps reduce that lack of information by providing ET data across the lower 48 states. It includes the ability to calculate ET on individual fields once you create a free account and designate the field boundaries. I have not had the chance to check it out yet, but hope eventually to compare their ET to what we calculate using our UGA Weather Network stations.
