The latest Drought Monitor, released today, shows that drought has gotten worse in many parts of the region, including northern Florida, all of Alabama and Georgia, and the Carolinas. Drought conditions have been reduced in eastern Virginia and central Tennessee, which experienced more rain in the past week than other states. Southern Florida is also largely out of drought, and abnormally dry conditions have improved in Puerto Rico, due to tropical rainfall in the past week. The worst hit area is in west central Alabama, which now has a patch of extreme (D3) drought due to the lack of rain there over several weeks.
The seasonal outlook for drought through the end of the year is predicting that drought will expand in Alabama and parts of Georgia and Florida due to the continued lack of rain there.
